Florida Marriage Records
Marriage certificates, like any other records, are crucial information. Since a record of marriage is a licit document, this can be used in various ways especially for legal and business purposes. In case of background checks and genealogy research, such type of register brings light to significant details which can be very useful to you. Since Florida is an open records state, anyone in need can request access to marriage records. A copy of a marriage certificate is worth $5. An additional $5 is required for an extra copy ordered at the same time. When appealing for a marriage record, an application or request form must be secured and filled out first.
Vital records including that of marriage decrees are kept and maintained by the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Department of Health. Marriage certificates can also be procured through the County Clerk’s Office in the county where the license was issued. There are no restrictions in requesting for a marriage record in Florida. Hence, any member of the state can obtain a copy of such document so long as the guidelines of procurement are strictly followed. Orders for these records can be placed via mail or in person. The usual turnaround time for marriage record requests in the state takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Counter service is available at the Vital Records Division. However, doing so may be inconvenient to you as you still need to take time off work or leave school just to stand in line. In such case, pulling the marriage record over the web is what you can do to get it in a more practical way.
